Australia: an autistic child survives four days in the forest

Australia: an autistic child survives four days in the forest
For the police, its survival is "miraculous". An autistic 11 year old boy missing for four days in the Australian bush was found, Tuesday, April 7. Luke Shambrook was walking in the rugged hills of Lake Eildon National Park, about three kilometers from the camp where he disappeared Friday when a police helicopter saw it.

Rescuers had resumed Monday after finding hope, after three days of fruitless searching, the cap of the child. His family reported that he was autistic and it was likely he would not answer calls, having perhaps not even realized being lost. As the child, according to his family, likes to hide and is fascinated by water, the investigations were initially oriented towards the lake.

"A young man strong, brave and resilient"

Suffering from dehydration and hypothermia, the child was hospitalized. "It's a miracle somewhere. You know how the ground there is covered with dense forest and as cold there at night. In addition, all morning it rained," said the press a police official of the State of Victoria. "The sighting was a huge relief and it is difficult to describe the joy we felt."

He concluded: "A 11 year old boy who is autistic and managed to get by, it really is a strong young man, brave and resilient."
