According to a British study published in 2001 , garlic could help prevent colds. Researchers followed 146 healthy adults during 12 weeks , from November to February . Every day participants randomly - received add - garlic , while others were given a placebo .

  Result: fewer people who consumed garlic caught colds. They were 24 against 65 of placebo group . In addition, the group that consumed garlic was less sick 111 days of illness were recorded against 366 days in the other group. Those who consumed garlic supplements were also easier to recover.

  However, a recent Australian study argues that if a link has been scientifically established between garlic and prevention of colds , additional studies are needed to clearly state that garlic is against the common cold.
